From the recording Scary Country

KPB: vocal, tenor ukulele.

Comments: The Red, White & Blue was a nude beach just north of Santa Cruz, CA, my parents used to take me in the late '70's when I was but a lad. It was a magical time and place which to this day sets a high mark in the experience of freedom. The beach closed sometime around 2009.

Lyrics

The fool on the roof is aloof to the riot squad parade
Unleashing hell to and fro on all the children below

His heart turns from Lemondrop Lane to a mailbox of red, white and blue
Between wind and waves he would prance without any pants

Mornings with the king walking down the diamond beach
Bobbing like a booby in the sapphire sea
Lost in the ruby fire dancing, listening to the mystic queen sing,

“Freedom’s just another word I heard to say I love you and I
Enjoy life much better loving you. Say, ‘Goodnight to the Red, White and Blue’”

The fool on the roof is aloof to all but his Glorious Joy
He sings to the goons dressed in black closing in, naked in Light and skin

“Freedom’s just another word I heard to say I love you and I
Enjoy life much better loving you. Goodnight to the Red, White and Blue”
